The Backpack Ministry is a program in response to hunger in America, especially in our community.

It operates on the assumption that students are fed breakfast and lunch at school during the week.

The Capon Bridge United Methodist Women started the Backpack Ministry twelve years ago in the fall of 2010 when we saw a need among the students at Capon Bridge Elementary.

Realizing that some students were only getting nutritious meals at school, we wanted to supply these children with simple food items for the weekend.

This Ministry works with volunteers who provide foods for breakfast, lunch, and snacks on Saturday and Sunday.

The program is a way to impact the possible hunger/nutrition issues over the weekend.

The BACKPACK MINISTRY operates solely on the donations of individuals and organizations along with a generous donation from Helping Hands in Romney.

If you would like to donate,

we would gladly accept items such as fruit snacks, oatmeal, cereal bars,

applesauce pouches, and pudding cups.

Remember that we can not give students any item that has been produced in a factory where peanuts are used.

This is especially true with the cereal bars.
